Drupal Canvas governance patterns for component-first teams
A practical look at how Canvas, SDC, and Storybook fit together when the goal is a maintainable editorial system instead of a one-off page builder.
Canvas works best when it consumes a well-defined design system. In this model, Single Directory Components are the source of truth for rendering, Storybook is the review and documentation layer, and Canvas is the composition layer for editors.
The most important discipline is deciding which patterns are reusable enough to become components, documenting them in Storybook, and only then exposing them in Canvas with guardrails.
